Tutoring & Teaching Experience
Here are some programs that I implemented at the school:
During the 2016-2017 school year, I worked as an Educational Technician at an elementary school in Cushing, Maine.
Due to mitigating factors, many students were often unable to complete their homework at home.
I started "Homework Club" so that students could receive help with their assigned work after the bus dropped them off at school each morning.
In a school of 90 students, about 10 voluntarily came to Homework Club every morning instead of attending morning recess.
It was very rewarding to see students progressively improving; the 4th grade student pictured above moved from a 3rd to a 4th grade reading level by the end of the year.
Multilingual Writing Center Tutor
During the 2015-2016 school year, I worked at Dickinson College's Multilingual Writing Center as a Spanish Writing Tutor.
Each week, I worked with 10 students to improve their Spanish essays. I helped them with their grammar, pointed out patterns of error, and retaught them the rules of a particular structure.
I also made sure each student had a coherent thesis, logical arguments, and sufficient evidence to back up their claims.
I saw many of the same students throughout the year, so I was able to see them begin to implement grammar structures that I taught them or catch their own errors. I enjoyed seeing their writing skills improve over the course of the year!
